Favorite Things

I love the color purple in the garden. It's warm and inviting and playful and peppy at the same time. There are many plants that you can use in the garden to capture the power of purple, but one of my favorite plants is the Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia Leucantha). This beauty has long, soft, velvety flower spikes that butterflies and hummingbird birds are drawn to.

This particular plant was given to me as a pass along plant less than a year ago and it is a show stopper. I also love to use it in cut flower arrangements.

  1. I love this plant, too! I don't have quite enough sun for it to perform as beautifully as yours. I'm so glad you're feeding all our little friends.

  2. Thanks, Linda. Since I lost my 50 foot Hackberry tree, I have a lot of sun. This plant really performs with minimal care.

  3. A favorite at my house too and with the humming birds. I have two varieties, the purple and white and the all purple.

  5. I just bought 3 of these at The Natural Gardener this weekend. They were on sale for $4 a piece. I just need to figure out where to put them. Yours look beautiful!

  6. Thanks, Laura! I could use two more I think to even out the area behind the fountain.

  7. That's an impressive patch of Salvia! I love purple in the garden, too, and the Salvias in particular. They are so loved by the pollinators. I imagine they must be very happy in your garden. :)

  8. Thank you, Beth! The hummingbirds love it!! I have two more patches just like that. I wished they bloomed longer.

  9. I miss this plant! I had a lot in my old garden, but at the "new" house they struggled. You're inspiring me to try again!! :-)
